Yandex's biggest data centre in Ryazan hit by reported drone strike
A drone attack overnight damaged Yandex's largest data centre in Sasovo, Ryazan Oblast, triggering a fire and power problems.
OSINT groups Exilenova+ and ASTRA reported that a drone strike set fire to Yandex's largest data centre in Sasovo, Ryazan Oblast, early Thursday morning. Yandex Cloud acknowledged an "incident" and power-supply issues in its ru-central1-b availability zone, noting that disruptions began at about 1:31 a.m. and were not resolved within the following 40 minutes. The centre is co-located with the Sasta machine-tool plant, a manufacturer of CNC equipment for Russia's defence, aerospace, oil and gas industries and subject to UK sanctions since 2024.
While Yandex warned customers of possible wider cloud impacts and advised temporary service migration, public outage monitors did not show a broad failure of consumer services. Neither regional authorities nor Ukrainian officials have confirmed the strike, and Yandex has not linked the damage to the drone attack.
Why it matters
The outage could disrupt Yandex's cloud services and highlights vulnerability of key Russian digital and industrial infrastructure.
