Years pulls all fresh dog meals after eye-condition reports linked to new recipe
Years recalled every fresh dog meal after owners reported a recipe change may trigger sudden bilateral dry eye, a condition that can lead to vision loss.
Years, a subscription service delivering personalised fresh dog meals, has voluntarily recalled all its products after reports that a recipe alteration involving buckwheat may be linked to sudden bilateral dry eye in dogs, a condition that can progress to blindness if untreated. The company said 192 customers out of an estimated 40,000 have reported potential eye problems, up from 57 cases earlier in the week. Veterinary feedback is mixed, with some ophthalmologists observing good treatment responses and others seeing slower or limited improvement.
An independent veterinary specialist deemed a direct link unlikely but advised further investigation, prompting Years to launch lab testing and engage two independent experts for root-cause analysis. The recall applies to all fresh meals, and owners have been instructed not to feed the food to any animal or to donate or sell it. The issue has sparked large Facebook groups where owners share experiences and discuss possible legal action.
Why it matters
Pet owners need to stop feeding potentially harmful food that could cause irreversible eye damage in dogs.
