Yellow storm alerts issued for six central Italian regions amid heavy rain risk
Italy's civil protection department has placed yellow storm warnings over Abruzzo, Campania, Lazio, Liguria, Molise and Tuscany as a moist system moves inland.
A storm system traveling along the Tyrrhenian Sea prompted the civil protection department to issue yellow alerts for parts of Abruzzo, Campania, Lazio, Liguria, Molise and Tuscany on Wednesday. Morning conditions will stay mild, but meteorologists expect the rain to intensify from the afternoon onward, potentially overwhelming drainage networks and prompting flash floods. Luca Lombroso of ilMeteo.it highlighted the danger of rapid, heavy rainfall, while Daniele Ingemi warned that Campania will be most exposed early, with eastern Liguria, the upper Tuscan coast and Viterbo facing worsening conditions later.
The Apennine range could channel the storm further inland toward Abruzzo and Molise by evening. Authorities note heightened risk of landslides and other hydrogeological hazards, which are likely to persist into Thursday, before a cold front brings a notable temperature drop on Friday.
Why it matters
Severe rain could flood streets and trigger landslides, affecting daily life and safety in central Italy.
