Yemeni troops claim they repelled Houthi assault on al-Mafalis front amid rising clashes
Yemeni government forces said they stopped a Houthi attack on the al-Mafalis front in Taiz province as fighting intensifies across several governorates.
Government troops in Yemen announced that the 4th Infantry Hashd Brigade of the Tor al-Bahah military axis successfully repelled a Houthi offensive on the al-Mafalis front south of Haifan in Taiz province, claiming the insurgents incurred heavy casualties. The same forces reported that air-defence units shot down Houthi reconnaissance drones over al-Makha. On the previous day, Yemeni artillery and drones bombarded Houthi positions and reinforcement sites in several governorates, including an attack on al-Fakhir market in al-Dhalea, resulting in multiple militant deaths and injuries.
Deputy minister of information Fayyad al-Numan confirmed intensive shelling on multiple fronts, while spokesperson Waddah al-Dubeish detailed the drone engagement. Rashad al-Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, stated that any Houthi move will meet a comprehensive deterrent and reiterated the government’s preference for a lasting peace that excludes a repeat of past truces. The clashes mark a resurgence of violence after a period of relative de-escalation since April 2022.
