Young British rider Finlay Tarling dies after crash in Volta a Portugal stage

Finlay Tarling, a 19-year-old British cyclist and younger brother of Netcompany Ineos rider Josh Tarling, died after a serious crash during the eighth stage of the Volta a Portugal. The incident happened on the 166.8-kilometre stretch between Melgaco and Fafe while he rode for the NSN Development Team. NSN announced its heartbreak, highlighting Fin’s importance to the squad and his family, including parents Michael and Dawn and brother Josh.

The race organisers and the Portuguese Cycling Federation posted condolences to his family, teammates and friends. As a mark of mourning, the race was neutralised and the planned podium ceremony was cancelled. Further details are expected to follow.
