Young cafe worker dies after motorcycle hit by trailer at traffic light
A 21-year-old cafe employee was killed when her motorcycle was struck by a trailer at a junction near a mall in Alor Star.
At a traffic-light junction near a shopping centre in Alor Star, 21-year-old cafe worker Nur Atikah Umairah Suhaimi was fatally injured after her motorcycle was hit by a trailer. The two vehicles were moving in the same direction from Masjid Aman toward the mall and Taman Desa Seraya when the light turned green and both attempted a right turn. The trailer brushed the motorcycle, causing Suhaimi to fall and then be run over, leading to severe injuries that proved fatal at the scene.
Kota Setar district police chief Assistant Commissioner Syed Basri Syed Ali reported that a urine test showed the 40-year-old Langkawi lorry driver was not under the influence of drugs, though he has five traffic summonses, only one of which remains unpaid. The police have seized both vehicles for further inspection and are appealing for eyewitnesses. The case is being pursued under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
