Young mother dies in Orange County street-racing crash, brother arrested for rival car
A 21-year-old mother was killed when a Nissan Infiniti she was riding in crashed into a tree in Mission Viejo, while her 20-year-old brother, who was driving a competing vehicle, was taken into custody.
Shalia Deciderio, 21, of Rancho Santa Margarita lost her life after the Nissan Infiniti she was riding in veered off the road and collided with a tree near Los Alisos Boulevard and Mustang Run in Mission Viejo around 9:41 p.m. Thursday. Emergency responders pronounced her dead on site, while the vehicle’s driver, 20-year-old Jaime Rojas of Mission Viejo, was treated for critical but stable injuries. The crash occurred during a street-racing event; Aiden Deciderio, also 20 and Shalia’s brother, was behind the wheel of a rival Infiniti and stayed at the scene before being arrested on Friday.
Prosecutors are considering vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence charges against both drivers. A GoFundMe page created for the family has collected more than $4,700 of its $13,000 goal to cover funeral expenses and care for Shalia’s infant child, and a makeshift memorial of flowers appeared at the crash location.
