Young mother in South Zealand faces murder charges for two newborns

A 25-year-old mother from South Zealand is under indictment for the deaths of two newborns born roughly a year and a half apart. The first infant, delivered in September 2023 at a crisis centre, is alleged to have been killed with violence and/or strangulation before being placed in a freezer; the mother was initially charged with improper handling of a corpse and sentenced to 30 days of conditional imprisonment. The second infant, born in December 2024 at the mother’s home, is said to have been smothered with a pillow and possibly struck on the head, then placed in a plastic bag and left outdoors.

While she acknowledges the reduced homicide charge for the second child, she maintains she did not kill the first. She was briefly held in pre-trial detention but has since been released, and a court date has yet to be scheduled.
