Youth football matches for 750 kids in Scotland cancelled over misconduct

The Central Scotland Football Association announced the cancellation of its Fun 4 youth football fixtures for roughly 750 children across the Central Belt due to escalating misconduct. Reports from parents, coaches and referees highlighted a pattern of verbal and physical aggression, including more than 70 red cards issued to junior players in a week and incidents of adults shouting at children. Gary McRae, a referee from East Renfrewshire, said the problem often starts with coaches and parents, noting examples of sexism, racism and sectarianism.

Volunteer coach Paul Reddish described a disturbing episode where his son was kicked in the back, causing him to withdraw from play. The Scottish Youth Football Association said disciplinary actions will commence, and a parent urged regional boards to conduct spot-checks and enforce penalties to restore a safe, fun environment.
