YouTube and Variety debut two creator series at TIFF's opening day

YouTube partnered with Variety to showcase two new creator programs during the opening day of the Toronto International Film Festival.

At the start of the Toronto International Film Festival, YouTube and Variety are co-hosting a creator showcase that highlights two original YouTube series. Mark Vins will screen his feature documentary "Reef to Ridge," chronicling a Galápagos expedition, while Ziwe will debut new episodes of her culturally resonant series "You'd Be an Iconic Guest." Both screenings are part of the festival's The Market program and will conclude with a Q&A led by one outlet's film executive editor Matt Donelly.

YouTube executives, including Kim Larson, emphasized the platform's role in shaping the next generation of Hollywood, and Variety's Dea Lawrence praised the rise of creator-filmmakers. The two shows are slated to move exclusively to YouTube later this year, underscoring the platform's expanding foothold in premium storytelling.

Why it matters

The event signals YouTube's growing influence in traditional film festivals and the blending of creator content with mainstream cinema.
