YouTuber Dhruv Rathee detained by plainclothes officers before CJP rally
Dhruv Rathee was taken into custody from his Gurgaon home by about 30 plainclothes police after refusing to heed warnings not to join an unauthorized CJP protest.
Early Saturday morning, about thirty plainclothes police officers entered Dhruv Rathee's home in the Kendriya Vihar area of Gurgaon and detained him. Authorities warned Rathee that the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest planned for Jantar Mantar in Delhi had no permission and was prohibited under Section 163 of the BNSS, yet he persisted in announcing his intent to attend on social media. The police described the arrest as a preventive measure to avoid any untoward incident, noting that such detention may last up to 24 hours.
Rathee was transferred to the crime-branch office in Sector 39, where he remained in custody until late that evening. In addition to Rathee, several Congress and Aam Aadmi Party members, along with affiliates of other parties, were reportedly placed under house arrest to block their participation in the rally. The protest called for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged electoral roll irregularities.
