Zcash jumps 66% to eight-year peak as Grayscale seeks ETF listing

Zcash surged 66% this week, reaching an eight-year high of $841 after Grayscale filed to turn its Zcash Trust into an exchange-traded fund.

Zcash has become a standout performer in the recent crypto surge, posting a 66% gain and hitting $841, the highest price in eight years. The rally, which lifted most digital assets, was sparked by a Treasury Department bond-buyback program and bolstered by political support and a wave of short squeezes. Grayscale submitted an amendment to the Securities and Exchange Commission to convert its Zcash Trust into an exchange-traded fund that would trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol ZCSH, providing investors a regulated route to ZEC exposure.

Analysts note Zcash’s privacy features, which hide transaction details via zero-knowledge cryptography, differentiate it from Bitcoin and could appeal to users concerned about surveillance. Experts such as Arjun Khemani and Gemini co-founder Tyler Winklevoss highlighted the token’s potential and its relevance to AI-driven security research, while also acknowledging that its anonymity may attract illicit use.

Why it matters

The move could bring mainstream investors into a privacy-centric cryptocurrency, reshaping market dynamics.
