Zelenskiy names Anton Kovalskyi as acting prosecutor general after Kravchenko's removal

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy appointed Anton Kovalskyi as acting prosecutor general, following the dismissal of Ruslan Kravchenko earlier this week.

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy signed a decree on Thursday designating Anton Kovalskyi as acting prosecutor general, replacing Ruslan Kravchenko who was dismissed earlier in the week. Kovalskyi, 42, has been heading the prosecutor’s office in the Khmelnytskyi region since July 2025. Kravchenko’s removal was formalized after lawmakers voted to approve the president’s decision.

The change follows an anti-corruption investigation by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO), which alleged that a subordinate of Kravchenko organized a ring to hide call-centre fraud affecting Ukrainians and foreigners. Kravchenko has denied any involvement and has not been charged. In a counter-accusation, he claimed NABU chief Semen Kryvonos falsified documents and staged a fake adoption in 2009, allegations that NABU and SAPO have denied.

Why it matters
