Zelensky adviser blames US intel limits and Starlink cuts for Ukrainian casualties
Advisor Serhii Beskrestnov says U.S. restrictions on intelligence warnings and Starlink usage have led to civilian deaths in Ukraine, despite Washington's denial.
In an interview, Serhii "Flash" Beskrestnov, a senior adviser to President Volodymyr Zelensky, claimed Ukrainian civilians have died because the United States has curtailed reliable intelligence about incoming Russian ballistic missiles. He cited attacks where warnings arrived moments before strikes, leaving little time for shelters. Beskrestnov also said the United States maintains restrictions on Ukraine's Starlink-derived Starshield service, limiting mobile unit speeds to 100 mph and impairing drone and communications capabilities.
While a White House spokesperson and Senator Marco Rubio asserted no changes to intelligence sharing, Beskrestnov argued the pattern appears deliberate, possibly aimed at pressuring Kyiv into negotiations with Russia. He noted Ukraine possesses some radar data but is seeking alternative communication systems to reduce reliance on Starlink. Elon Musk has indicated that the U.S. government ultimately controls access to Starshield, hinting at a possible role in the restrictions.
Why it matters
The dispute over U.S. intel and satellite access affects Ukraine's civilian safety and its ability to defend against Russian attacks.
