Zelensky says EU talks focus on energy, air defence and financial aid

President Zelensky told supporters that his Brussels meetings with European leaders centered on urgent energy, air-defence and budget support, while noting no sign of a Russian peace offer.

President Volodymyr Zelensky reported on social media that his meetings in Brussels with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa focused on securing further aid for Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and air-defence capabilities. He also discussed measures to bolster Ukraine’s financial stability into the next fiscal year and coordinated actions on the country’s European integration path.

Zelensky noted that new negotiating clusters were launched this week, with a goal to establish the remaining two before the end of the year. He emphasized that Russia continues to send signals that are far from indicating a readiness to end the conflict. The discussions take place alongside a European Council gathering where EU heads of state will consider Ukraine-related issues and hear a speech from Zelensky. The visit also includes additional bilateral talks with other European leaders.

Why it matters
