Zelensky says Macron pledged faster delivery of French air-defence systems
President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that President Emmanuel Macron has agreed to speed up the supply of French air-defence hardware to Ukraine.
During a Telegram post on August 22, Zelensky said he discussed Ukraine's lack of air-defence capability with French President Emmanuel Macron. Macron reportedly committed to hasten the provision of the latest French missiles and related equipment. Zelensky also thanked France for confirming its willingness to grant production licences for the missiles. The discussion centres on the pending arrival of the Italo-French SAMP/T-NG system, which experts say can intercept ballistic missiles. Earlier diplomatic notes had suggested the system would not reach Ukraine before spring 2027.
Why it matters
Faster French air-defence deliveries could strengthen Ukraine's ability to counter missile attacks.
