Zelensky urges crackdown on scam call centers and seeks prosecutor general's removal

President Volodymyr Zelensky appealed to the Ukrainian parliament to adopt draft legislation that would introduce severe criminal sanctions for fraudulent call centers. He also revealed that he has suspended Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko and forwarded a formal request for his dismissal to the Verkhovna Rada, citing recent evidence of misconduct. The appeal follows Operation Carthage, an anti-corruption raid that exposed a criminal group allegedly led by a senior official from the Prosecutor General’s Office, which received bribes from scam call centers and laundered the money.

Semen Kryvonos, head of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, and the chief of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office briefed Zelensky on the investigation. Zelensky urged lawmakers to act quickly, emphasizing that the reasons for Kravchenko’s removal are clear and that sufficient parliamentary support exists.
