Zomato cuts 250 jobs as Hyderabad support centre shuts down

Zomato has closed its Hyderabad customer-service hub, eliminating roughly 250 positions as part of a shift toward outsourced support.

Zomato announced the closure of its Hyderabad customer-service centre, causing the termination of roughly 250 employees. This step is part of a broader restructuring that has been moving a larger share of support tasks to third-party providers over the past half-year. The company is centralising the remaining in-house support staff at its Gurugram headquarters to align more closely with product, technology, analytics and business units.

Employees were notified on Monday that they would receive their August wages, four months of pay covering contractual notice, and a one-off ex gratia sum, while their medical insurance and counselling benefits will continue until March 2027. The decision mirrors a wider trend among consumer-internet firms to outsource support and adopt automation, reducing the need for large internal teams. Zomato previously let go of about 500 junior staff in April 2025, and its founder Deepinder Goyal also shared updates on the company’s Temple wearable device in a recent social-media post.

Why it matters

The layoffs illustrate how tech firms are trimming in-house support roles in favor of outsourcing and automation.
