Zoya Akhtar confirms work on Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara sequel

Zoya Akhtar revealed that a sequel to the 2011 movie Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is currently in development, with fellow filmmaker Reema Kagti collaborating on the project. She stressed that the continuation will proceed only when a story feels appropriate for the three protagonists, who were last seen on a transformative journey across Spain fifteen years ago. The recent 2025 commercial starring Hritham Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol, which echoed their original roles, has heightened audience anticipation.

Akhtar addressed longstanding critiques that her films often center on privileged families, stating that such feedback no longer influences her work. The original film remains a cult favorite, celebrated for its depiction of friendship and personal growth.
