Former Lembaga Tabung Haji CEO Zukri Samat will take over as chairman of Bank Simpanan Nasional on Oct 12, replacing Awang Adek Hussin.
Datuk Seri Dr Zukri Samat, former managing director and CEO of the Lembaga Tabung Haji group in mid-2018, has been appointed chairman of Bank Simpanan Nasional, with the transition set for Oct 12. He will replace Datuk Seri Dr Awang Adek Hussin, whose chairmanship began on July 1, 2024, after more than two years in the role. Bank Simpanan Nasional's chief executive Mujibburrahman Abd Rashid said Samat's background in institutional transformation, public-sector finance and Islamic banking will be crucial as the bank moves forward.
Samat brings a broad portfolio of experience, most recently as chairman of Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia, and previously as managing director of Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd and Pengurusan Danaharta Nasional Bhd. He has also served on the board of the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia, chaired the Islamic Banking and Finance Institute Malaysia, and been a member of the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council. Samat expressed his intent to deepen financial inclusion, accelerate digital transformation and embed sustainability in the bank's operations.
