AfD pushes for seating, office and committee reforms in Saxony-Anhalt Landtag

In the run-up to the first meeting of Saxony-Anhalt’s newly elected Landtag, the AfD has submitted a comprehensive set of procedural demands. It proposes that its parliamentary group move from the right-hand side of the plenary to the centre, sitting alongside the BSW, which would push the SPD, Linke and Greens to the extreme left and shift the CDU to the right. The AfD also wants the CDU, BSW and its own faction to retain offices in the Landtag’s main building, while the other three parties would be relocated to external properties.

Regarding committee composition, the administration has suggested eleven seats for the AfD-BSW bloc, but the AfD is asking for twelve, which would give the two parties a two-vote majority. The party justifies the request by citing the over-representation of the CSU in Bavaria’s parliament. Support from the Wagenknecht-Partei for certain parliamentary procedures, such as the election of the Landtag president, has also been reported.
