Akhilesh Yadav claims internal EC objections make recent governments unconstitutional

Akhilesh Yadav, president of the Samajwadi Party, warned that the Election Commission’s alleged internal objections to its own SIR and electoral-roll procedures threaten democratic legitimacy, calling governments formed during this time unconstitutional. He referred to a report indicating that Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi recorded 14 objections over a ten-month span, questioning the commission’s impartiality.

Yadav further claimed that Samajwadi Party voters were systematically removed from the rolls and that no corrective action was taken. He appealed to the Supreme Court to take suo motu notice of the issue. The Election Commission countered that all orders, including those on SIR, were adopted unanimously with the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s approval, describing internal notes as routine. Yadav also criticized the Uttar Pradesh BJP government for arbitrary actions and defended the party’s stance on the Ayodhya Ram Temple project.
