Alberta hosts two-day virtual forum on staying in Canada versus secession

A weekend online assembly will feature Premier Danielle Smith arguing for Alberta to remain in Canada, alongside speakers supporting separation.

The Alberta and the West virtual assembly, scheduled for September 19-20, aims to inform voters ahead of Alberta’s upcoming referendum on separation. Co-chairs Preston Manning and former B.C. premier Gordon Campbell described the two-day online forum as a neutral educational exercise. Premier Danielle Smith is slated to argue that Alberta should remain a sovereign province within Canada.

On the second day, speakers including lawyer Keith Wilson of the Let Alberta Decide Group and Stephen Carter of Alberta Voice will present arguments for secession and against the referendum. The proceedings will be livestreamed, allowing the public to watch and submit questions. Additional details on participants and agenda are posted at www.albertaandthewest.ca.
