Amnesty International published a report condemning the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and calling for its abolition. The document records illegal homicides, arbitrary arrests, forced disappearances and torture perpetrated by ICE, Customs and Border Protection and other federal bodies during four large-scale immigration operations conducted under the Trump administration in Chicago, Saint Paul, Minneapolis, New Orleans and Washington, D.C. The organization says these actions were part of a strategy to deter and deport the maximum number of migrants, asylum seekers and refugees, creating widespread fear in immigrant communities.
Nadia Daar, Amnesty’s U.S. executive director, described the agency’s conduct as a “dangerous new level” of abuse that cannot be reformed. The report also notes masked, unidentifiable agents, weakened safeguards, and a lack of meaningful investigations or accountability. Amnesty joins other human-rights groups in demanding ICE’s immediate termination.
