Anwar Ibrahim pledges stronger wage-growth measures in the 2027 budget

At a university alumni event, Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim indicated that the 2027 budget will feature more robust policies to boost wage growth. He pointed to recent steps such as increasing salaries for public-sector employees and establishing a RM3,100 minimum wage for government-linked investment companies. The private-sector minimum wage has already been raised in stages, reaching RM1,700.

Anwar emphasized that these moves are insufficient on their own and that additional measures are required to align wages with rising productivity and overall economic expansion. He said the budget is in its final stage and will give the issue greater priority. The remarks were made at the Himpunan Mesra Alumni Universiti Teknologi Mara in the Dewan Agung Tuanku Canselor.
