Anwar Ibrahim stresses diplomatic dialogue with neighbours at China book launch

At a ceremony in Hangzhou marking the Chinese edition of his book, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim reaffirmed Malaysia’s strategy of handling disagreements with neighbouring countries through persistent diplomatic dialogue rather than confrontation. He recounted personal experiences of mutual respect with Chinese leaders, commending President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang for their humility toward smaller states, a trait he sees as essential for nations navigating post-colonial realities and modern geopolitical pressures.

Anwar dismissed the notion that China cannot be trusted, attributing such views to prejudice. The launch was joined by Transport Minister Anthony Loke, Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Johari Abdul Ghani and Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution. The publication, printed in about 5,000 copies by World Affairs Press under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, calls for reshaping identity and pursuing coexistence through shared prosperity. Anwar, also serving as Finance Minister, is on a three-day visit to Shanghai and Hangzhou for high-level bilateral meetings with Chinese officials and business leaders.
