Anwar says negotiations on opposition constituency funds must continue, denies voter neglect
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim told Parliament that talks over constituency development funds for opposition MPs will go on and insisted residents are not being ignored.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim addressed a supplementary question from PN-Besut MP Che Zulkifly Jusoh, affirming that negotiations over constituency development funds for opposition representatives are ongoing. He clarified that allocations are not necessarily routed through individual MPs but are assigned based on local needs, state approvals and ministry oversight, with government-appointed coordinators handling opposition-led states.
Anwar rejected claims that opposition constituencies are being sidelined, pointing to recent increases in federal funding for Terengganu and a RM123 million package for 197 projects in Besut. He noted that Deputy Prime Minister II Fadillah Yusof has been asked to keep talks alive using the existing agreement format, and warned that negotiations require willingness from the opposition. Opposition figures such as DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke and Gobind Singh Deo have called for an Equal Allocation Act, but Anwar stopped short of confirming any legislative change.
Why it matters
