Apple unveils refreshed HomePod mini with new colors and audio upgrades
Apple announced the HomePod mini 2, adding fresh fabric colors and several audio-focused features, with a launch set for October 30.
Apple's latest smart speaker, the HomePod mini 2, arrives with a palette of three additional fabric colors—blue, green and pink—joining the original white and Midnight shades. While the hardware looks unchanged, the update adds several audio-centric capabilities: a Sound Glow display that reflects album artwork or soundscape themes, continuous AirPlay connectivity to any Mac, and expanded surround-sound support that lets up to four HomePod minis work with a new Apple TV 4K. The feature also works with second-generation HomePods, allowing mixed configurations.
Although the speaker will eventually run the forthcoming Siri AI, that functionality is postponed beyond the launch date. The device is priced at $149, available for pre-order now, and will be delivered on October 30.
Why it matters
The refresh adds visual and audio enhancements to Apple's entry-level smart speaker, influencing the competitive smart-home market.
