‘Artificial’ launches Oscar push with Garfield as supporting nominee, Borisov as lead
Luca Guadagnino’s film “Artificial” has begun its awards drive, entering Andrew Garfield for supporting actor and Yura Borisov for lead.
Luca Guadagnino’s OpenAI-focused drama “Artificial” premiered at the New York Film Festival and unveiled an extensive Oscar campaign. Andrew Garfield, portraying Sam Altman, will compete for a supporting-actor nomination, while Yura Borisov, playing co-founder Ilya Sutskever, is entered as a lead-actor candidate. Supporting-category hopefuls also include Mark Rylance as Geoffrey Hinton and Monica Barbaro as Mira Murati.
The push spans all major categories—best picture, directing, original screenplay—and will continue through its upcoming showing at the BFI London Film Festival. The ensemble features Cooper Hoffman, Ike Barinholtz, Jason Schwartzman and others, with a crew that includes cinematographer Malik Hassan Sayeed and composer Damon Albarn. Producers Jeffrey Clifford, Jennifer Fox, David Heyman and screenwriter Simon Rich are banking on the campaign to secure Oscar recognition.
