Asian markets wobble as US-Iran talks ease oil prices and Indian futures dip
India's GIFT Nifty pointed to a modestly lower opening for the Nifty50, while Brent crude fell over 1% on optimism about a US-Iran de-escalation.
India's GIFT Nifty futures indicated a modestly negative bias for the Nifty50 opening, trading at 23,339, down 49 points as investors weighed possible de-escalation in West Asia. Across the region, most Asia-Pacific markets rose, following similar moves on Wall Street; South Korea's Kospi gained 0.4% while Japan's markets were closed for a holiday. In the United States, the Nasdaq 100 hit a new high since June, the Dow fell 0.36%, and the S&P 500 ended flat.
Brent crude dropped more than 1% after President Donald Trump reported a very good conversation with the Iranian envoy, though September futures later rose to $99.09 per barrel on the ICE. Gold and silver futures also edged higher. Meanwhile, Indian investors faced a busy IPO day with nine offerings launching, including Adroit Industries and Elevate Campuses on the mainboard and several SMEs such as Unitec Fibres and Liqvd Digital.
