AUR demands early elections at Cotroceni meeting, refuses to back any government

AUR will meet at the Cotroceni Palace to reiterate its call for snap elections and state it will not support a new government unless included.

AUR is set to appear at the Cotroceni Palace for a new round of consultations, maintaining the same demand it presented earlier: the calling of early elections. Senator leader Petrișor Peiu emphasized that the party will refuse to endorse any new government unless it is part of the governing coalition. This stance comes after the parliamentary rejection of the government proposed by Siegfried Mureșan.

President Nicușor Dan has announced that, following the consultations, he will put forward a fresh candidate for prime minister. AUR argues that snap elections are the constitutional and democratic solution to one outlet stalemate. The party also reiterated that any future cabinet participation would depend on transparent negotiations on equal terms.

Why it matters

The standoff could trigger early elections, reshaping Romania's political landscape.
