President Nicușor Dan schedules party talks on Monday to name a new prime minister
President Nicușor Dan will meet all parliamentary parties on Monday at the Cotroceni Palace to discuss a fresh candidate for prime minister after the collapse of Siegfried Mureșan’s government.
President Nicușor Dan announced a series of consultations on Monday at the Cotroceni Palace, inviting every parliamentary party and group to propose a new prime-ministerial candidate. The schedule starts with the Partidul Social Democrat at 14:00 and proceeds through parties such as AUR, PNL, USR, UDMR, and several parliamentary groups, concluding with independents at 19:00. Dan asked each faction to hold internal meetings before the day and to bring forward proposals capable of winning a confidence vote.
Interim premier Ilie Bolojan reiterated his refusal to serve in a PSD-led cabinet while leaving the door open for a confidence vote that could unblock the crisis. The prior government, led by Siegfried Mureșan, was rejected on Wednesday, receiving only 182 votes against the required 233. Bolojan was also summoned to the DNA Iași as a witness in the Fănel Bogoș business case.
Why it matters
The talks determine whether Romania can form a stable government after the recent parliamentary deadlock.
