AUR leader George Simion again calls for Nicușor Dan's suspension, accusing him of blocking the country

George Simion posted on Facebook urging the removal of President Nicușor Dan, claiming the head of state is obstructing Romania.

George Simion used his Facebook page to reiterate a call for the suspension of President Nicușor Dan, accusing him of blocking the country. This follows a recent push by AUR on the PSD to remove Dan after he declined Cotroceni-led talks and named Luca Niculescu as prime minister. Simion urged social-democrats to act, referencing comments from Sorin Grindeanu and Bolojan.

The PSD responded that Dan has not violated the Constitution, despite criticism over the premier appointment. AUR is attempting to gather enough parliamentary signatures to start a suspension procedure, which would require a constitutional court review and a parliamentary majority, followed by a possible referendum within 30 days.

Why it matters

The call highlights political tension over presidential powers and could trigger a constitutional showdown in Romania.
