Ayuso vows legal fight to defend private property over new housing decrees
Madrid President Isabel Díaz Ayuso said her regional government will scrutinize the housing decrees approved by the Sánchez administration and will use every legal tool to protect private property if they are passed through the Permanent Deputation.
Following the dissolution of the Cortes and the call for snap elections, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez's government passed two housing decrees with minor modifications, routing them to the Permanent Deputation for approval. This body assumes the lower house's essential functions during the electoral period, and the governing parties lack a majority there. Isabel Díaz Ayuso, president of the Community of Madrid, declared that her administration will study the decrees thoroughly and warned that, should they be confirmed through what she termed a "trick" bypassing the full chamber, her government will employ all available legal mechanisms to defend private property, the free market, legal certainty and the Constitution. She made the statement at the close of the XXIX National Congress of Family Business, shortly after Sánchez appealed to the Permanent Deputation to approve the measures "for humanitarian reasons."
Why it matters
