Bank Indonesia pushes integrated halal ecosystem and Islamic financing at Java Sharia Festival

Bank Indonesia Governor Destry Damayanti announced a plan to strengthen the halal value chain by expanding Islamic financing and literacy during the 2026 Java Sharia Economic Festival in Surabaya.

At the opening of the 2026 Java Sharia Economic Festival in Surabaya, Bank Indonesia Governor Destry Damayanti outlined a core direction of the central bank’s Islamic economic policy: to develop an integrated halal value chain from supply to demand. She emphasized that the ecosystem must unite entrepreneurs, markets, supporting agencies and the financing sector, rather than relying solely on product growth. To achieve this, BI will collaborate with the Indonesian Ulema Council, the National Sharia Board and the Financial Services Authority to design Sharia-compliant financial products, addressing one outlet limited variety. Damayanti highlighted Indonesia’s diverse halal offerings, including food, modest fashion and emerging Muslim-friendly tourism, and called for expanded Islamic financing and financial literacy to help firms secure capital and improve competitiveness.
