Indonesia's cross-border QRIS platform wins international digital infrastructure prize

During a ceremony parallel to the 81st United Nations General Assembly, the Digital Public Goods Alliance and Co-Develop honored Indonesia’s Cross-Border QRIS with the "50-in-5" award for breakthrough digital infrastructure. Bank Indonesia Deputy Governor Filianingsih Hendarta explained that financial interoperability can be achieved through shared standards rather than uniform payment systems. Developed with regional central banks and payment industry partners, the QRIS network now links Indonesia to Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, South Korea and China.

Central bank data show millions of inbound and outbound QR transactions, generating a net inflow of several trillion rupiah. The system is especially valuable for the country’s micro, small and medium enterprises, which make up the vast majority of QRIS merchants and can accept payments from foreign visitors. Officials said expansion to additional partner nations will continue.
