Barcola misses PSG squad as Lens clinches French Super Cup 1-0
Bradley Barcola was not included in Paris Saint-Germain's lineup as Lens defeated the champions 1-0 in the French Super Cup.
In the French Super Cup, Lens edged Paris Saint-Germain 1-0, thanks to a 32nd-minute strike by Florian Thauvin that followed a mis-hit attempt from Matthieu Udol. Bradley Barcola, the 23-year-old France forward rumored to be a target for Liverpool, remained an unused substitute and was omitted from the squad entirely. Lens played much of the game with ten men after teenage defender Kyllian Antonio received a straight red card for a studs-up challenge on Maghnes Akliouche.
Paris Saint-Germain also lost substitute Nuno Mendes to a late dismissal after he entered for recent signing Lucas Digne. The French champions have been active in the transfer market, bringing in World Cup final scorer Ferran Torres from Barcelona and 21-year-old Belgian winger Mika Godts from Ajax, both of whom could compete with or replace Barcola should he depart.
Why it matters
The match outcome and Barcola's omission highlight transfer rumors and squad changes affecting top European clubs.
