Bersatu leaders admit long-standing desire to ally with Pakatan Harapan in Selangor
MP Kiandee says Bersatu has secretly aimed to partner with PH, now evident as a Selangor pact is being finalised.
In Parliament, Beluran MP Kiandee claimed Bersatu’s top brass has long pursued a partnership with Pakatan Harapan, a goal now visible as a Selangor coalition pact is being prepared. He suggested internal opposition, including himself, kept the ambition concealed, and pointed to ex-PKR members such as Azmin Ali, Hilman Idham and Dr Afif Bahardin as possible architects. Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari announced that Bersatu assemblymen will sign the agreement before the state budget is tabled.
The development adds strain to the already fragile relationship between PH, Barisan Nasional and PAS, the latter’s image suffering from the Bersatu fallout. PAS MP Awang Hashim downplayed the shift, describing party alliances as fluid and blaming internal Bersatu issues for any fallout. The internal rift stems from a power struggle between Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin and former deputy Hamzah Zainudin, who now leads Wawasan.
Why it matters
The emerging Bersatu-PH alliance could reshape Malaysia’s state-level power balance and affect national coalition dynamics.
