Bersatu urges review of account freeze after former prime minister cleared

The High Court, presided over by Justice Noor Ruwena Nurdin, ruled that three money-laundering allegations involving RM200 million from Bukhary Equity and one abuse-of-power accusation against the former prime minister were to be dismissed. Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Akram Gharib had previously requested the former premier’s release without any further charges. In response, Bersatu’s information chief Faisal Ismail Aziz urged authorities to reconsider the legal grounds for maintaining the freeze and seizure of the party’s accounts tied to the same funds.

He highlighted that the three AMLA charges directly linking the RM200 million to Bersatu had been nullified, raising questions about the continued enforcement of the restrictions. The court noted that prosecutors offered no justification for persisting with the accusations. Aziz’s statement calls for a reassessment of the financial measures imposed on Bersatu.
