Bilawal says federal government poised to impose emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari claimed the centre was ready to declare emergency rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, but urged a political solution to terrorism.
At an event in Karachi, PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari said the federal government had already resolved to impose emergency or governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as a response to frequent terrorist attacks originating from Afghanistan. While acknowledging the constitutional provision for such measures, he emphasized that the PPP believes political parties should first pursue a negotiated approach to combat terrorism.
Bilawal indicated the PPP is ready to discuss the issue with the protesting PTI before any decision is taken, noting the PTI’s long march scheduled for October 4 has already disrupted the capital. He praised the PTI’s ability to shut down Islamabad for ten days but warned that continued focus on politics amid daily terrorist incidents could force the centre’s hand. The chairman also blamed India for supporting the cross-border threat and urged that terrorism not be viewed through a partisan lens.
