BJP accuses Rahul Gandhi of using protests to mask electoral failures
BJP leaders criticised Rahul Gandhi for turning to street protests, blaming Congress’s leadership for repeated election losses.
BJP officials asserted that the Election Commission is not to blame for Congress’s string of defeats, but rather the party’s own unstable leadership. Shivraj Singh Chouhan highlighted losses in recent by-elections and internal factionalism across states such as Karnataka, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. Anurag Thakur condemned Rahul Gandhi’s street protests and the INDIA bloc’s petition to Chief Justice Surya Kant, calling it an attempt to threaten the judiciary over a sub-judice issue.
The party further accused Gandhi of spreading anarchy, denigrating constitutional bodies and seeking foreign backing to create unrest. BJP leaders also referenced Gandhi’s earlier actions, such as tearing up a government bill, to portray him as increasingly anarchic. Chirag Paswan added that the Supreme Court’s judgment on the SIR case should render further protests unnecessary.
Why it matters
The criticism reflects escalating political tensions ahead of upcoming elections in India.
