BJP appoints Vinod Tawde as Uttar Pradesh in-charge ahead of upcoming elections
The Bharatiya Janata Party named Vinod Tawde as its state in-charge for Uttar Pradesh as it prepares for elections early next year.
In a reshuffle of its state leadership, the Bharatiya Janata Party appointed Vinod Tawde as the in-charge for Uttar Pradesh, a key battleground state with elections slated for early next year. Tawde, credited with playing a role in the party's successful Bihar campaign, has been part of the BJP's national organization since 2020, advancing from national secretary to general secretary. The party also assigned MP Satish Poonia to oversee Punjab and MP Tarun Chugh to manage Gujarat.
Alongside Tawde, secretary Jagdish Ishwarbhai Patel will serve as co-in-charge of Uttar Pradesh, linking the party's organizational wing with the state government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. These appointments come a day after the party president announced a new slate of national office-bearers. Tawde's elevation reflects his steady climb within the party hierarchy after being denied a Maharashtra assembly ticket in 2019.
Why it matters
The BJP's leadership changes could shape its strategy in Uttar Pradesh, a pivotal state for its next election cycle.
