British engineering executive and two companions die in Swiss Alpine plane crash

A Cirrus SR22T departing Sion airport crashed into a slope near Leukerbad in the Valais canton, killing all three aboard. Among the dead was Owain Davies, 55, the chief of the engineering company Amcanu, which he has run since 2000 after inheriting it from his father Spencer Davies OBE. Davies, a Welsh speaker and trustee of the Wales Air Ambulance Charity since 2017, was on board with two friends, including another Briton.

Rescue teams arrived quickly, but the accident’s cause is still under investigation by the Swiss Transportation Safety Board, Valais Police and the Office of the Attorney General. The British Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office confirmed it is offering assistance to the victims’ families, while colleagues remembered Davies as a mentor, friend and passionate aviator.
