British sprinter Amy Hunt clinches four golds at European Championships
Amy Hunt captured a historic quartet of European titles, including a mixed 4x100m relay, during a week of competition on home soil.
Amy Hunt, the 24-year-old British sprint star, emerged from Alexander Stadium with an unprecedented four gold medals at the European Athletics Championships, winning the 100m, 200m, women's 4x100m relay and the mixed 4x100m relay. The feat follows a career that began with a world-under-18 record of 22.42 seconds set at age 17 in Germany and a subsequent rise to global prominence, including a World Championships silver medal.
After a severe quadriceps tendon rupture in 2022 forced surgery and a period of rehabilitation, Hunt returned to form while completing an English Literature degree at Cambridge. She relocated to Padua to train under Marco Airale, focusing on improving her start despite already possessing elite top-end speed. Former hurdling champion Colin Jackson praised her potential in both the 100m and 200m, while Hunt expressed confidence that the quadruple gold will propel her toward Olympic success in 2028.
Why it matters
Hunt's sweep highlights a rising British sprint talent and sets expectations for future global championships and the 2028 Olympics.
