BT takeover of TalkTalk won’t disrupt services, experts advise customers to keep paying
Customers of TalkTalk have been told that the BT acquisition will not affect their current contracts or service, and they should maintain existing direct debits.
BT’s pending acquisition of TalkTalk is expected to leave existing customer contracts and pricing untouched, according to regulators and industry experts. TalkTalk users are advised to keep their direct debit arrangements in place to prevent service interruptions and to ignore unexpected calls about the transaction, contacting the provider directly if needed. The Department for Culture, Media and Sport reiterated that services should operate as usual during the review process, with any alterations communicated to customers.
Uswitch’s communications spokesman noted that BT intends to keep TalkTalk operating separately while the deal is examined, and urged customers to watch for scams. Additional guidance highlighted that customers relying on landlines for medical alarms should inform TalkTalk for priority support, and that Ofcom rules allow exit without fees if contracts are materially altered.
