Bucharest Mayor Robert Negoiță Predicts Early Elections Amid Parliamentary Deadlock

Robert Negoiță, mayor of Bucharest’s Sector 3, asserted that the only viable solution to Romania’s governmental stalemate is to trigger early elections, after confidential negotiations for a new parliamentary majority collapsed. He claimed the existing political configuration cannot deliver a durable leadership arrangement and that the electorate must be called to the ballot box. Negoiță rejected speculation that President Nicușor Dan is protecting the Social Democratic Party (PSD), pointing to the party’s weak poll numbers.

He also questioned any concrete actions by the president that might benefit PSD. Meanwhile, AUR leader George Simion echoed the call for snap elections, accusing the presidency of excluding parties from prime-ministerial talks and ignoring AUR’s proposals. Both figures argue that a clear electoral mandate is needed to break the current deadlock.
