Charles Leclerc crashes at 160 mph on Monza, race halted

On the second lap of the Italian Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc was vying with McLaren's Oscar Piastri for fourth position when he lost grip on the exit of the Parabolica. The car careened into the gravel trap before striking the tyre barrier, causing extensive damage and leaving Leclerc with a suspected neck injury. He managed to climb out of the vehicle, sat on the grass, and signaled his discomfort before being escorted to the medical centre.

The crash forced officials to red-flag the race, while earlier a tussle with teammate Lewis Hamilton at the first chicane had already created tension. After the stoppage, George Russell moved into the lead, having overtaken pole-sitter Pierre Gasly at the start of lap two.
