China Declines to Confirm Xi Jinping's Attendance at India's BRICS 2026 Summit

When asked about President Xi Jinping's potential trip to India for the 2026 BRICS summit, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun replied that there is no information to share. Former BRICS Sherpa and Indian diplomat Sanjay Bhattacharyya acknowledged the lack of a formal confirmation from Beijing. He highlighted that multilateral meetings like BRICS provide opportunities for India and China to engage bilaterally.

Bhattacharyya said the two civilizational powers, both emerging economies, have differences but can find common ground on regional and global issues. He noted that economic competition will persist, yet the scope for joint initiatives remains substantial. The statements leave Xi's attendance uncertain as the summit approaches.
