Chinese militia ship reappears near Philippines’ Kota Island, escorted by 22 sampans

A Chinese maritime militia vessel returned to the waters around Kota Island in the West Philippine Sea, accompanied by dozens of fishing boats, prompting Philippine authorities to issue a warning.

The same Chinese militia ship, identified as Vessel 9622, entered the area on Friday, Oct. 9, together with 22 sampans that were engaged in illegal fishing and alleged waste dumping. Philippine patrol boats responded, but the Chinese mothership maneuvered to surround them.
