Cinemark Aligns with AMC and Regal in Backing Paramount-Warner Merger
Cinemark announced its support for the $111 billion Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery merger, joining AMC Theatres and Regal Cinemas in urging a swift resolution.
Cinemark issued a statement supporting the $111 billion merger of Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery, placing it alongside AMC Theatres and Regal Cinemas in calling for an expedited conclusion. The chain argued that a healthy industry requires financially robust studios and exhibitors capable of delivering high-quality films worldwide.
Cinemark cited David Ellison’s commitment to launch at least 30 new titles each year and maintain a 45-day theatrical window as a key benefit. Although Cinema United, the industry’s primary lobby, remains against any Warner Bros. acquisition, Cinemark noted constructive conversations between the merger partners and the group. The company also praised the trade organization’s advocacy for exhibition interests. The merger faces an antitrust lawsuit from a 12-state coalition and a pending 2027 trial, with Ellison threatening to withdraw Paramount from California if negotiations stall.
Why it matters
The backing of all three major U.S. theater chains could sway regulators and shape the future of movie distribution.
